Volunteer opportunity: Hoistroom tour support
Throughout Neutrino Day, trolleys transport visitors from the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center to the Yates Hoistroom. Visitors see the system that provides power and lift to the cages that carry people and equipment deep underground at SURF.
Volunteers assisting with hoistroom tour support will accompany the hoistroom tour guides into the Yates facility throughout the day, following the tour group and assisting in keeping attendees safe and secure in the designated areas.
While it may help to have a knowledge of the facility, this volunteer position will primarily help keep groups together. It will require walking and standing for most of the volunteer shift. If a visitor asks a question, directing the inquiry to the hoistroom tour guide helps our visitors know their questions are being shared with others so we can all learn together.
