Become a Volunteer
Volunteers make Neutrino Day a success. Thank you so much for joining us!
Ways to help
Whether you’re volunteering by yourself or as part of a group, there are countless ways to get involved.
Our volunteers help guests detect invisible particles, extract DNA from strawberries, explore the anatomy of an inflatable heart, learn traditional Native American games, serve up nitrogen ice cream, and so much more!
Want to bring science to life? When you Sign Up to Volunteer, identify yourself as a “Team Lead,” and tell us about your proposed activity or demonstration.
Our expert volunteers share information about mysterious neutrinos, elusive dark matter, extreme life underground, the geology of the Black Hills, the science of blacksmithing, and more!
Do you have expertise to share? When you Sign Up to Volunteer, identify yourself as a “Team Lead,” and tell us what you'd like to share with Neutrino Day guests.
Just want to lend a helping hand? Our volunteers help guests stay safe, find their way around Lead, and make the most of their Neutrino Day experience!
We’d love to match you with a volunteer assignment that’s ideal for you! Have you helped with a specific activity in the past? Do you know Lead like the back of your hand? Are you an expert in local history or a scientific field? Do you need to be stationed indoors?
When you Sign Up to Volunteer, be sure to tell us all about you, so we can find the best assignment for you!
Want to enjoy all Neutrino Day has to offer? We don’t blame you!
You can still help make Neutrino Day a success by signing up to get ready or clean up. Join us Friday afternoon and evening to prepare for the fun, or on Saturday afternoon to help clean up.
When you Sign Up to Volunteer, be sure to mark your availability and tell us anything else we need to know!

Here's what you need to know
Whether you're leading an activity, joining a group, or just want to lend a helping hand, we've got a few top tips to share with Neutrino Day volunteers.
Are you leading an activity, demonstration, or informational booth?
When you Sign Up to Volunteer, identify yourself as a “Team Lead” and share as much information as possible about your proposed station.
Include the names and t-shirt sizes of your team members when signing up. If you don't have this information yet, please have your team members register themselves and list you as their Team Lead. Remember, volunteers must sign up by June 12 to guarantee a t-shirt in their size.
We expect more than 1,500 guests on Neutrino Day! Please ensure that you bring enough supplies and that your team staffs the activity from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
We provide a 6’ table, two chairs, and electrical outlets for most stations. If you have a special request, (e.g., your activity requires additional space, you’d like to be located outdoors, your activity requires an above-average amount of electricity) please let us know when you sign up.
Questions? Contact us. As Neutrino Day draws near, we’ll be sharing important updates to the Volunteer Updates page, so be sure to check back often.
Are you part of an activity, demonstration, or informational booth, but not the Team Lead?
Ask your Team Lead if they included your name and t-shirt size in their volunteer submission. If they did, you’re good to go!
If they didn't sign you up, please Sign Up to Volunteer and include the name of your Team Lead.
Don’t belong to a group, but still want to join the fun?
