Volunteering at the Handley Recreation Center
Thank you for volunteering to be a part of SURF’s Neutrino Day!
When you arrive in Lead, you may choose the closest parking option for the Handley Recreation Center or you may also park near the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center and ride the shuttle buses to the Handley Recreation Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. Please use the crosswalk and traffic signals at the corner of Glendale Drive for your safety.
If you are volunteering with a group, we recommend your team consider meeting and carpooling from the Gold Run Park to the best parking option for the Handley Recreation Center to allow for accessible parking for all our volunteers.
Events kick off at 9 a.m., so please plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. for morning volunteer shifts. Please check in at the welcome table at the Handley Recreation Center to receive directions to your exact assignment. Your volunteer t-shirt and a Neutrino Day informational pocket guide will be waiting for you at the Handley Recreation Center.
All-day events conclude at 3:30 p.m. so please plan on visitors being at this location until this time if you are volunteering until the end of the day. You may choose to bring a lunch or snacks to enjoy during your shift. Water will be provided at the Handley Recreation Center.
While most activities will be indoors, please consider having adequate protection from the summer weather and temperatures. This includes comfortable clothes and shoes, a hat, and sunscreen.
Through Fall 2023, if you are traveling from outside the city of Lead, there is construction on Mill Street so both access and parking between the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center and the Ross and Yates Complexes are limited to local traffic only.
Following your volunteer shift, please take a moment to complete the Neutrino Day survey to help us improve our volunteer experience for next year.
